Octagonal frame drum made of cow scar – your protector, friend and most important guide to other worlds
In front of you is an octagonal frame drum, completely handmade by us and our business partner and close friend Stanislav (https://stanidrum.de/) – made of spruce wood and cowhide rawhide.
The sound of the octagonal frame drum made of cow scar conveys a unique feeling of inner relaxation and liberation from the burden of thoughts.
Beats in the center of the drum create an enveloping, warming sound reminiscent of diving into hot springs high in the mountains. Blows closer to the edge produce a light, “airy” but dense sound.
Each drum is not only unique in terms of sound, but also in appearance: for the head, we use cowhide rawhide, whose natural texture cannot be copied or faked!
The shamanic octagonal frame drum made of cow scar is the right choice for you if:
- there are physical and psychological blockages in you;
- has accumulated inner exhaustion that you can’t get rid of;
- you are looking for the way to yourself and want to hear thoughts, feelings and desires that come from within you – and not from the outside world;
- you care about the uniqueness of an item that has a distinctive texture created by nature.

Shape of Octagonal Frame Drum Made of Bovine Scar
The shape for the frame drum was chosen by us for a reason: On the one hand, this shape is extremely practical – during long shamanic rituals, the shaman can change the handle at the edges. In addition, the corners create additional acoustics, which makes the sound sharper, which is important in trance rituals.
In addition, the number 8 has a deep meaning in many cultures and spiritual practices, including shamanism. Mongolian shamans, for example, distinguish eight cardinal directions (north, south, west, east and the intermediate directions). The number 8 is also associated with the so-called “Eightfold Path” of salvation, which Buddhist shamans report: This path of Buddha led to enlightenment and the exit from samsara.
The octagon unites circle (sky) and square (earth) and thus symbolizes the connection between the worlds.
Materials and their symbolism
Raw bovine grain rawhide
For these drums we use beef grain rawhide. The density, smoothness and fine porosity of the material give durability to the coat and fullness and “warmth” to the sound.
To this day, many drum makers choose beef grain rawhide because of its sacral properties:
- Strength and resistance – The bull embodies power, vitality and the ability to overcome challenges. By using bovine stigma for the drum, the master preserves and transmits these qualities (steadfastness, perseverance, protection) to humans.
- Earth and Fertilityt – The bull is often associated with the earth, male energy, and fertility. Its leather can symbolize stability, connection to ancestors and natural cycles.
Spruce
The body of such an instrument, such as the octagonal frame drum made of cow stigma, is made of spruce wood. Thanks to its light weight, Fichte conducts sound well, giving the drum a bright, resonant sound with clear trebles. In addition, spruce wood is flexible, which is especially important when stringing the skin. Spruce is one of the types of wood that produce a long sustain – a “vibrant” reverberation that is essential for trance and meditation rhythms.
The spruce is also associated with certain symbols and abilities in many cultures:
- Connection to the sky – In some traditions, the spruce is considered the “world tree” that connects the earth and the upper world.
- Cleansing energy – In some cultures, spruce wood is associated with protection from evil spirits.
- Harmony with the eardrum – In combination with bovine scar (powerful, “earthy”), the spruce creates a balance – lightness of spirit and strength of matter.
