Care
To ensure that the wooden spoon serves its purpose for as long as possible, we recommend rinsing it thoroughly with warm water after each use. All spoons are coated with linseed oil, which keeps out most substances that could damage the spoon. To avoid damaging this coating, detergents should always be used with caution. Of course, as with all wooden products, the spoon should never be washed in the dishwasher.
If handled correctly, the wooden spoon will last a lifetime and retain its unique look.
The wood rowan
Mountain ash wood, better known as rowan wood, is a uniformly dense and finely textured wood that is often used for carving due to its hardness. The dry weight is 600 to 640 kg per cubic meter and is therefore a medium-heavy timber. The beautiful wood has good elasticity and strength, similar to the properties of oak.
History
In the past, clock people mainly ate their food by hand. However, in the course of evolution they developed various tools from sticks and snails or mussel shells, which they then used as spoons relatively early in human history. Gradually, people also began to carve their spoons out of wood. Germanic tribes, Slavs and Vikings often used elaborately decorated spoons with carved animal heads. It was not until the Middle Ages that the profession of spoon carver emerged, as until then people made their own spoons. In the late Middle Ages, some places began to mass-produce spoons with uniform shapes and dimensions. In addition to the normal spoons for eating, there were also long-handled spoons with a round bowl. Metal spoons as we know them today, on the other hand, only appeared towards the end of the 15th century. However, the traditional wooden spoon is still one of the most important tools for eating in some parts of the world.
