Care
The long and gentle drying of the wood prevents cracks. The linseed oil protects the door knob from wear and tear. If something does break, the knob can be sanded down and re-coated with a preservative oil. The wood is regularly greased through everyday use. Overall, the door knob requires little to no maintenance.
History
The history of the door handle is closely linked to the history of the door lock. In the early days of modern mankind, most doors were only closed with wood or ropes. However, this simple measure stopped very few thieves and robbers from taking people’s property. So it was that after some time, human ingenuity developed a secure system to protect his own: the lock was born. The Egyptian palace is often referred to as the oldest palace in the world. Its construction is made entirely of wood and is opened by a kind of wooden bar with a hook and closed again by a latch. Over time, this system evolved into the modern door lock as we know it today. In the Middle Ages, most castles were made of iron. Even though the locks almost all look the same, people got creative with the handles and tried out new materials.
