Texture of the coffee can
The base, lid and handle are made of natural wood. The body of the coffee can is made of birch bark, put together and sewn with birch bark.
Wood glue is only used minimally in the tea caddy at the inlet and from the inside of the lid.
These birch bark boxes are made in close cooperation with a couple of craftsmen from the Ural region. These birch bark containers are the result of our shared passion for detailed and neatly crafted objects.
The birch bark containers combine a love of detail and a wide variety of processing techniques, some of which go back centuries and lead to the creation of such works of art made from birch bark.
Feature of birch bark coffee tin
Such coffee cans preserve the aroma of teas, spices, coffee and herbs very well. The tin owes this property to the birch bark. It is not only a natural raw material, but also a natural substance, which contains a lot of antiseptic and preservative substances. These provide the preservative effect.
This property was already known to people in the Stone Age…
Tip:
If you want to keep your favorite coffee in this tin, you can preserve the untreated wooden base with food varnish or beeswax. This is because wood absorbs and releases some flavor. We personally also use the tins to store fragile teas (white tea) or coffee.
With coffee, however, we did not preserve the grounds. The first batch of coffee (especially the last spoonfuls) still had a woody note, but another 500g were completely flawless in taste.
Now it’s a pleasure to open the can. Because now the aroma of freshly ground coffee rises every time!
